Hours:
The Windsor Hill Elementary School Media Center is open from 7:05 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Checkout Policies:
4K and Kindergarten students can check out one book at a time. First through fifth grade students can check out two books at a time. Books are due in one week. Students may renew their books on a weekly basis. Parents may visit the media center and checkout an unlimited number of books.
Overdue Items:
Overdue slips will be printed on Fridays. Bills for lost or damaged items will be printed each 9 weeks. Report cards will be held if a student has library books that have not been returned or paid for by the end of each quarter.
Lost or Damaged Books Policy:
Students are responsible for keeping their books in a safe place. If a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, that student is responsible for paying the total cost of the book. If a book is damaged yet repairable, that student is responsible for paying the cost to repair the book.
Library Classes:
4K-2nd grade classes meet once a week in the library for 20 minutes of instruction and 10 minutes of checkout. 3rd-5th grade classes visit the library in small groups of five students to checkout books throughout the school week. Mrs. Porter works with 3rd-5th grade classes thoughout the year on specific research lessons and collaborative units.
Reading Programs:
Every quarter students receive a reading log where they will keep track of the books they’ve read throughout the quarter. Students that complete the entire reading log will be invited to participate in a party held in the media center. Students will be awarded with a certificate, a free book, and other prizes.
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer program that tests students’ reading comprehension. Students earn AR points when they test successfully on a book. The student that earns the most AR points in their grade level will receive a trophy at the end of the school year.
